This Cookie Policy explains how cookies and similar technologies are used on the website FOE-Tools (foe.tools) and its associated applications (the "Service"). It supplements, and should be read together with, the Privacy Policy and the Legal Notice.
For any question, please use the contact form and select the "Legal" reason.
1. What Are Cookies and Similar Technologies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. "Similar technologies" include browser storage mechanisms such as localStorage. Some of these technologies are strictly necessary for the Service to work; others are used only with your consent.
Important note about browser local storage. For anonymous (not signed-in) users, saved profiles are stored in your browser's localStorage, not in cookies. This data stays on your device and is not used for tracking. See the Privacy Policy for details.
2. Cookie and Storage Inventory
Strictly necessary (no consent required)
| Name / Provider | Purpose | Type / Category | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
better-auth.session_token (Better Auth, self-hosted) | Keeps the user signed in; session management. HttpOnly. | Strictly necessary (cookie) | For the length of the signed-in session (it may persist across visits until sign-out or expiry) |
| Consent state | Stores your cookie and consent choices so the consent tool does not ask again | Strictly necessary (cookie or storage) | Persistent; your choice is asked again at least every 13 months |
Functional
| Name / Provider | Purpose | Type / Category | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Locale preference | Remembers the chosen site language | Functional (cookie or storage) | Persistent |
| Theme / color mode | Remembers your display preference (light or dark, and theme style); it may be kept in browser storage rather than a cookie | Functional (cookie or storage) | Persistent |
Analytics
| Name / Provider | Purpose | Type / Category | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cabin (withcabin.com) | Aggregate, privacy-friendly traffic measurement | Cookieless (no cookie is set) | Not applicable |
No analytics cookies are used. Cabin is cookieless and does no cross-site tracking, so no consent is required for analytics.
Advertising (set only after consent)
| Name / Provider | Purpose | Type / Category | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Playwire / NitroPay, plus Google (AdSense, Ad Manager, DoubleClick) | Advertising delivery, frequency capping, and, where consent is given, personalization | Advertising (cookie or identifier) | Varies by provider |
Advertising cookies and identifiers are set only after consent is given through the IAB TCF 2.2 consent management platform (CMP). Google Consent Mode v2 applies, with a default of "denied" for advertising and analytics storage until consent is given. A single ad network (Playwire or NitroPay), selected on the server, serves all ad-supported visitors at any given time. Paid subscribers do not see ads.
Security and anti-bot
| Name / Provider | Purpose | Type / Category | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare Turnstile | Anti-bot challenge on the contact and support forms | Security (cookie) | Short-lived (for the length of the challenge) |
3. Consent
For cookies and identifiers that are not strictly necessary, and for advertising cookies in particular, consent is collected through the IAB TCF 2.2 consent management platform provided by the advertising network, with Google Consent Mode v2 defaulting to "denied" until you make a choice.
- Strictly necessary cookies do not require consent and cannot be turned off through the consent tool, since the Service cannot work without them.
- Analytics (Cabin) is cookieless and requires no consent.
- Advertising cookies are set only after you give consent.
4. Managing and Withdrawing Consent
- Consent management platform (CMP). You can review and change your choices at any time using the consent controls on the Service. Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it, and it takes effect for future processing.
- "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" (California). The same consent controls act as the opt-out mechanism for the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information under the CCPA/CPRA, and we treat a Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal as a valid opt-out request where our consent management platform supports it. See the Privacy Policy for details.
- Browser controls. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies and clear local storage in their settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the Service (such as staying signed in) from working correctly.
5. Third Parties
Some cookies and identifiers are set by third parties acting as recipients or processors, including Cloudflare (Turnstile), the applicable advertising network (Playwire or NitroPay), and Google. Details of these parties, their locations, and the applicable international transfer safeguards are set out in the Privacy Policy (Sections 5 and 6).
6. Changes to This Cookie Policy
This Cookie Policy may be updated from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top shows the most recent revision.
